Our friends purchased tickets 2 weeks ago and 1.5 months ago, and, respectively, paid $700 and $600... we now can't find anything near there. Is there a trick or a secret to this? Thanks all~

I flew to Milan in March and I used a company called Destination Europe. They have a website but it isn't for booking. You need to call them direct at 1-800-FLY-EUROPE. They were the cheapest I could find and were really great to work with. Also, check out www.cheapflights.com. That site offers a lot from airlines consolidating tickets. If your dates are flexible, one of those may work for you.

Play around with the day of the week and time of day you can leave. Weekend flights are always lots more expensive.

Comparison travel engines:

http://www.sidestep.com

http://www.bookingbuddy.com

http://www.kayak.com

http://www.cheapflights.com

or small online agencies such as http://www.flycheapabroad.com

Where are you flying from?

You could always wait until the high season is over.

Also - if you are flexible - move your travel dates beginning of November - there is a significant drop in prices then.
